This week, a ticket to LCD Soundsystem’s farewell show became more coveted than a ticket to Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Despite doubts even from within their own camp, the band managed to sell the whole thing out in a matter of minutes. Naturally, scalpers started peddling their wares at insane prices (we found one ticket for $1,500), and LCD front-adult James Murphy had some not-too-kind words for the scalpers: “We tried calling our lawyer about the ticket scalping. ‘It’s legal.’ No joke. It's f*****g legal. I tramped around with friends and band getting insane. I wanted to buy some expensive tickets and then track the seller down to beat him. I acted stupid. I did some classic, Shakespearean vain ‘fist shaking,’ etc. I made angry Tweets.” To counter this, their final show is now getting four run-up shows at Terminal 5 on March 28-31—get ready for a lot of people misusing the word “penultimate”!

And speaking of Terminal 5, Cut Copy is announcing a third (!) show, which means its about time you stopped confusing them with Crystal Castles. And PJ Harvey is getting that second Terminal 5 show after her first one sold out faster than you can say “Yr City’s a Sucker.” Why are all these shows selling out? Seriously, it’s as if thousands of cool people all live on this island or something! Anyway, we’ll see you all on StubHub, where you can trade us your used gold and family heirlooms for PJ Harvey tickets. James Murphy says it’s totally legal!

Partner Message If you care anything about power-pop, you know two things: It’s OK to not pay attention to Weezer anymore, and Big Star is one of the most amazing bands ever. Word has come down the pipeline that the Baruch Performing Arts Center is going to play host to an all-star recreation of their landmark album Third/Sister Lovers. In the lineup is the band’s sole surviving member, drummer Jody Stephens, teaming up with Yo La Tengo's Ira Kaplan, R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake, Mitch Easter, Tift Merritt, Will Rigby and Chris Stamey of the dB's, and M. Ward. What, you’re too busy, Rivers?

Bonnaroo announced the lineup for its 10th-annual rain party and soggy-gyro-tasting festival. While most of the lineup is the usual slew of Grammy winners (Arcade Fire) and Grammy losers (Eminem), we’re most happy to report on the New York bands playing diplomats (sorry, no Diplomats) to this giant mud puddle. Our big headliners are the Strokes, who will finally see how cool those leather jackets are in the Tennessee sun. Our buddies !!! will bring the party after their triumphant Coachella set, and Matt & Kim will surely put a smile on the face of anyone already overloaded with 17 types of drugs. Other New York artists making the trip: Sharon Van Etten, Phosphorescent, the Walkmen, Sleigh Bells, the Drums, School of Seven Bells, and “Worst Band Name in New York” runners-up Freelance Whales. Most intriguing, though, is the fest’s world-music focus—last year’s Latin Alternative Tent has been upended by the far trendier sounding “Global Gypsy Punk Revue,” curated by our own Eugene Hütz of Gogol Bordello! See you at wherever we’ll be attempting to charge our phones!

[ WHAT'S NEW ON SOUND OF THE CITY ]

In case you missed the Grammies, Arcade Fire took home Album of the Year and lit the powder keg for the upcoming indie revolution. Don’t be shocked if Justin Bieber starts working on a beard. There was a lot of “WE WON” Tweeting going on amid Twitter’s doughier, nerdier, more unwashed contingent, so our own Rob Harvilla and Zach Baron had a little back and forth about who “we” is and what exactly we “won.” There’s a picture of John Norris and some links to funny tweets. Basically, this is the definitive look at what will be a definitive moment in the indie-rock storyline, just as long as Radiohead doesn’t do anything crazy this week. Wait, they’re releasing what? If there’s one thing dubstep is missing from its oppressive bass blasts and dark-hued misanthropy, it’s the ability to get you to snuggle to it. That’s where Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix come in. Their annual Luvstep compilation mixes wobbly woofer-wreckage with only the swooniest, cuddliest, poppiest, most uplifting side of dubstep. To celebrate the release of the second volume, our own Puja Patel interviewed the DJs about their shared love of yacht rock, the fight against “testosterone-driven bro-down music,” and how they seriously hope you start making babies to their mixes. Well, get started: Read more >

A few weeks ago, pop princess Rihanna released a Technicolor paparazzi revenge fantasy called “S&M”—four naughty minutes of whips, rope, latex, ball-gags, and other fun stuff we hope isn’t getting caught in your spam filter. After the video was banned in 11 countries, our own Stelios Phili decided to find out just how accurate these depictions of naughtiness were. So he phoned up the employees of three of New York’s finest adult toyshops to find out just how well she wields that umbrella. Says Phili, “These are polarizing results. But it must mean something if a former dominatrix wouldn't want kids to see this video.” Looks like you’ve got some NSFW viewing to do: Read more >

Our own Nick Murray looked into the unblinking, unflinching abyss that is a 12-year-old’s Justin Bieber fandom. He attended the Union Square premiere of the Beeb’s 3D movie, Never Say Never , and can only report one thing: the screaming, the horrific screaming, the shrill wails that still ricochet through his head when he closes his eyes. The horror. Murray reports, “In reality— and I say this at the risk of exile—the crowd was probably more interesting than the movie,” and he tirelessly documents each shriek, each impromptu dance, each bout of total weirdness. Read for yourself and see if you can help us raise some money for his PTSD: Read more >
